The Ainaži Northern Breakwater is a historic hydraulic structure located less than 100 meters from the border with Estonia.

Its length along the coast is 361 meters, and 482 meters in the bay.

Construction of the breakwater began in 1912 to protect the port from northerly winds and to extend the railway to the sea. Construction ceased with the outbreak of World War I. In 1915, all the rails were dismantled.

Today, a well-maintained wooden walkway leads to the breakwater.

In wet weather, the rocks are slippery, so it is recommended to wear suitable footwear.
