Aizkraukle Castle Ruins, Latvia

The castle was built around 1213 on the right bank of the Daugava River. It served as a defense against raids and held great strategic importance.

Throughout its history, it repeatedly came under the control of various states until its destruction during the Polish-Swedish Wars in the 17th century.

Today, only the ruins of the castle’s foundation and a section of the wall, approximately 5 meters high, remain.

For safety reasons, it is recommended not to approach the ruins.
