Cesis Old Town, Latvia
With its narrow, winding streets, picturesque craftsmen’s workshops and merchants’ stalls, Cesis is one of the loveliest cities in Latvia.
The medieval castle ruins with a historical park are the most recognized local sight and a symbol of the city. Repeatedly rebuilt and expanded, Cesis Castle acquired its modern look in the 16th century.
As a result of fires and hostilities, the medieval buildings of Cesis were completely destroyed. However, the structure of the old city has remained almost unchanged.
Nowadays, you can see several more outstanding buildings around Cesis: the 13th century St. John’s Church, the Town Hall Square, the Trading House, the House of Harmony and the House of Princesses.
