The massive bright red Church of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, built in neo-Romanesque style and distinguished by exceptional beauty, is located between Vilnius and the city of Trakai.

The construction of the church was started by Count Jozef Tyszkiewicz in the middle of the 19th century, being inspired by the Italian church “Santa Maria delle Grazie” in Milan and the mysterious fresco “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci.

The interior of the church deserves special attention. The walls are decorated with frescoes and painted using a special sgraffito technique, which is very rare in Lithuania. Decoration works were carried out during the Second World War, when the necessary materials were intended only for military purposes.

Nowadays, mass is served every day here in Lithuanian and Polish.
