Estonian Maritime Museum: Seaplane Harbor. Tallinn, Estonia

Home » Объекты » Estonian Maritime Museum: Seaplane Harbor. Tallinn, Estonia

One of the most impressive museums in Estonia, where you can explore unique objects, is located on the coast, near Noblessner Port, and within just a 20-minute walk from the Fat Margaret Tower, which houses the Maritime Museum’s permanent exhibition.

The Seaplane Harbor is a historic site, designed by a Danish engineering firm as a unique structure. Once one of the largest Soviet naval bases in the Baltics, the Seaplane Harbor became a branch of the Estonian Maritime Museum in 2012.

The Seaplane Harbor exhibition is primarily dedicated to 20th-century naval technology. One of the most impressive exhibits is the Estonian submarine Lembit built in 1937. It is a unique piece, one of the few surviving submarines from World War II. In 2011, it was the oldest submarine still afloat in the world. You can tour the submarine not only from the outside, but also from the inside.

The exhibition also includes numerous interactive elements: simulators, information screens, a children’s corner for young visitors, an aquarium, and much more.

Temporary exhibitions are also on display. Until January 11, 2026, you can visit the Maritime Museum’s anniversary exhibition, “Beginning,” which covers the period from 1935 to 1940, during which the Maritime Museum was founded.

The second temporary exhibition, “Famous Sea Voyages,” which is on display until January 11, 2026, tells the story of expeditions aimed at discovering the last unexplored corners of the planet.

The museum’s exhibition doesn’t end inside: outdoors, you’ll find eight different ships of various purposes, from a fishing vessel to the icebreaker Suur Tõll, a symbol of Estonian shipping.

You can explore the museum on your own or with a guide. The museum offers several types of tours in different languages. An audio guide is also available.
