Estonian Museum of Natural History in Tallinn, Estonia
The Museum of Natural History is a place in old Tallinn where a person meets nature in its various forms.
Several expositions are exhibited on three floors of the museum; the permanent one is dedicated to Estonian nature.
On the second floor, you will find a geological hall where you can see and even touch minerals, rocks, fossils, and the remains of ancient animals. There is also a hall of swamps where you may learn about the importance of wetlands in the ecosystem as well as get acquainted with the variety of their flora and fauna.
On the third floor, there is a spacious hall devoted to forests where you will learn about the life of trees and various animals whose habitat is represented by Estonian woods. The exhibition can be viewed with an audio guide available in Estonian, Russian, English, and Finnish.
There is a virtual exposition dedicated to the Baltic Sea, revealing its history, current state, and future prospects.
On the first floor of the museum, there is a temporary exhibition of Peeter Laurits “Something’s related to everything”. The exposition includes large-format photos and sound installations immersing the guests in the mysterious atmosphere of nature.
The museum conducts educational sessions: you can sign up for various lessons in natural history. Children may join nature clubs and participate in summer camps organized by the museum. The premises of the museum can be booked for birthday celebrations; also, the museum regularly offers various hiking activities.
