Home » Объекты » Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum. Tartu, Estonia

This is the largest sports museum in the Baltics, where the history of sports meets interaction. The museum is located in the very center of Tartu and is appealing to everyone: schoolchildren, sports fans, families with children and tourists who are looking for unusual entertainment.

Here, you can not only explore various exhibits, but also become a part of history: try yourself as a sports commentator, ride

in a rally simulator, play basketball in front of the fans or compete in human foosball. Also, you can literally have a tour across the 80s by visiting a vintage room of a Soviet sports fan. In total, the museum’s collection contains 158,141 exhibits.

“The Story of Estonian Sport” is the main exhibition of the museum telling a story of a small country becoming a large sports power. Medals, personal belongings of athletes, video archives and rare photographs help to deeply understand this path, from the first championships to the Olympics.

Special exhibitions are a reason to come back, even if you have already visited the museum before. For example, the current one “Arena of Martial Arts” tells about the philosophy and traditions of martial arts around the world. “Estonians in Paris 1924” is dedicated to the Olympics where the country participated under its flag for the first time.

The exhibition “Tartu in Flames” tells the story of the great fire that started in 1775 at the site where the Sports Museum stands today. The exhibition recounts the history and consequences of the disaster that forever changed the face of the city center.

You can explore the museum exhibition with a digital buddy – a special application that acts not only as an audio guide, but also makes a real companion capable of puzzling you with quizzes.

The museum hosts various lectures, temporary exhibitions and sports events, and is also open for cooperation. It’s worth visiting more than once, as the exhibitions are regularly updated, and you will definitely be entertained every time.
