Also known as Dome Church, the Tartu Cathedral is one of the largest in Estonia and the only medieval church with two towers in the country.

Its construction presumably started in the second half of the 13th century and was completed by the end of the 15th century when two massive 66 m high towers were built. The Protestant iconoclasts vandalized the Cathedral during the attack in 1525, and since then, the building kept wrecking. In 1807, the University of Dorpat Library was integrated to its ruins.

When the university established a new library in 1981, the former building was turned into a historical museum.
