Kaucminde is an ancient manor with a history of over 500 years. It was once a luxurious residence of the von Pahlen family with a majestic palace, well-kept gardens and a hunting lodge.

First mentioned in 1459, the manor was established by gradually uniting several land holdings.

In 1801, the owner of the estate, Count Peter Ludwig von Pahlen, participated in a conspiracy against Paul I. Until the agrarian reform of 1920, the manor remained the property of the von Pahlen family. Then, before the war, a very prestigious home economics institute operated here, upbringing the ladies to be the future housekeepers. Later it served as a hospital, a kindergarten and an agricultural technical school.

Today, the manor is privately owned. Its current owner, architect Aiva Dreimane-Ozolzile, is convinced that the old manor can still be preserved and wants to restore it to its former appearance.
