Kaunas, Lithuania
Kaunas has been declared European Capital of Culture 2022.
It is the second largest city in Lithuania and used to be the temporary capital of the Republic of Lithuania from 1919 to 1940. It is located at the confluence of the Neman and Neris rivers.
Kaunas is not only filled with unique architecture, creative and cultural places, but is one of the greenest cities in the country. Huge parks are located close to residential areas, and outside the city there are walking trails through picturesque natural spots.
A long pedestrian Laives alley leads through the center of the city. Kaunas Castle dating back to the 14th century is located in the old town.
The city often hosts international festivals and events.
