Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania and one of the biggest ice-free ports located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon.

Previously, Klaipeda was called Mamel and used to belong to the knights of the Teutonic Order till 1525. Until 1923, it was part of Germany, which was reflected in the architecture of the city.

In Soviet times, Klaipeda was called the “city with no queues” due to its well-organized trading system.

Klaipeda is divided by the river Dange (Dane) into 2 parts: on the left side, there is the Old Town, and on the right side, there is is the modern city center.

Klaipeda often makes a starting point for tourists who travel to the Curonian Spit. The city is especially popular in summer.
