Kondas Centre. Viljandi, Estonia

The Kondas Centre was founded in 2003 and named after the famous Estonian artist Paul Kondas (1900-85). Paul Kondas worked in the naïve style, which is often used by self-taught artists and amateurs. The permanent exhibition of the museum is dedicated to his works. Here, you can see one of his most famous paintings: “Strawberry Eaters”. In 2006, sculptures of strawberries were installed on the streets of Viljandi, in the direction of the Kondas Centre, having become a symbol of the city.

In four temporary exhibition halls, constantly alternating exhibitions by Estonian and international authors are displayed, from professional art to naïve art. The museum not only embraces permanent and temporary exhibitions, but also sells works by the artists.

The Kondas Centre has its own outsider art collection, including 800+ paintings by more than 80 artists. The museum not only exhibits the works, but also carries out research: the staff of the museum constantly studies the works of Estonian and foreign outsider artists and searches for new talents.

The museum supports artists with special mental development needs and acquires their works, thus making a significant contribution to promoting these artists.

In the Kondas Centre, you can not only view the exhibition, but also attend master classes for different age groups, lectures and meetings with artists. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of creativity and learn something new.

There are many interactive activities for children. For example, you can make a collage from elements of Paul Kondas’s excavated works, play dominoes, puzzles and interactive games. Such activities will help children have fun and get involved in art in a playful way.
