Lode clay quarry
This unusual quarry is located between the Liepa village and the ancient Gauja valley. At the end of the 20th century, clay was mined here on an industrial scale to be used in the production of bricks.
The peculiarity of this quarry is reddish cracked soil which is often compared with Mars landscape. We recommend you to plan a visit on a dry summer day.
Not far from the quarry, there are many beautiful natural places and trails: the outcrop of the Great Ellite sandstone, the ancient course of the Gauja river, the Lichi-Langu cliffs, etc.
You can visit the quarry free of charge at any time of the year.
