Lukiškės Prison 2.0 in Vilnius, Lithuania

Lukiškės Prison 2.0 is a former prison complex built in the early 1900s and closed in 2019. Today, it is a modern art platform for creative people and one of the most interesting cultural spots in Lithuania.

A big share of the complex is included in the Lithuanian cultural heritage list.

The Lukiškės historical prison complex has been holding prisoners for 115 years. This place was used to imprison political opposition representatives during Tsarist Russia, the Polish Republic (1922-1939), the German occupation (1941-1944) and the USSR (1940-1941), as well as to exclude cruel people from society.

The complex includes administrative building, the former Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, prison building No. 1, prison and hospital building No. 2, production building, fence and checkpoint.

Since the summer of 2021, the former prison has been transformed into a center for music, contemporary art, design and culture. A community of 300 artists, musicians and dancers have started creating a new history here.

Now anyone can attend it for the sake of temporary exhibitions, from 12:00 to 20:00, or local bars. The main bar is open from 12:00 to 00:00, and the cocktail bar is available from 19:00 to 00:00. Times can change in case of private events.

By signing up for a two-hour guided tour, you can also explore other premises: temporary detention facilities, interrogation rooms, a former Orthodox church, as well as cells where criminals sentenced to life imprisonment were held. Tours are conducted in English, Lithuanian or Russian.

There are concerts conducted here (many of them on Thursdays): in summer, in the open air, and in winter, under the dome of the former church with excellent acoustics.
