Memorial to the Victims of Communism

This memorial located not far from the city center consists of two parts. One of them is called “The Way”  and represents two high black walls that form a long dark tunnel. The second part – “Home Garden” – is a platform on the hillside surrounded by apple trees.

The names of more than 22,000 people are engraved on the walls of the tunnel, and the list is gradually replenished.

As a result of enemies’ invasion, Estonia lost every fifth of its one million inhabitants. The memorial recalls the fragility of human life and freedom.
