Maritime Museum (Lennusadam)
This is one of the main and most fascinating museums in Estonia. It was established by former captains and sailors in 1935 to share their love for the sea with people.
In 1981, the museum opened a permanent exhibition in the “Fat Margaret” tower. In the past, this tower defended the city, also embracing warehouses and a prison. Today, you can learn here about the history of navigation as well as explore different models of ships and equipment.
Note: this part of the museum has been temporarily closed for renovationl; it will resume work in the autumn of 2019.
In 2012, the second exposition of the Maritime Museum opened: the Seaplane Harbor. The most important exhibits are the Lembit submarine, the Short 184 seaplane and the Maasilinna ship, one of the oldest ships in Estonia. Here you can also find collections of military equipment, sea mines, boats and sailboats.
