Since this spring, after significant restoration works accomplished, the Padise monastery is again accessible to visitors. It is located within a 40 min drive from Tallinn, near the Rummu quarry. It is the only Cistercian monastery in Northern Europe to be so well preserved. The monastery embraces a permanent exhibition, a church, a crypt, a courtyard and a cellar.
Cistercian monasteries are usually distinguished by asceticism and sparse interiors, but extraordinary carvings and ornaments have been discovered in Padise Monastery. Due to the good acoustics, concerts are often held in Padise.
Admission to the monastery: adults – 6€; pupils, students and seniors – 4€, family ticket – 12€.
