Pedestrian bridge over the Gauja in Sigulda, Latvia
The bridge over the Gauja was opened in 1979 aiming to establish a circular route through the ancient valley of the Gauja, allowing visitors to see the picturesque Devil’s Rocks and the cave from the opposite bank.
Until the 20th century, it was easy to approach the path that led along the cliff to the foot of the cave. Due to the large number of visitors, the sandstone gradually collapsed, posing a threat to the preservation of the cave.
Alternative concept has been tailored as a solution: to create convenient access for people to the opposite shore, from where you can see the picturesque outcrops of sandstone. In 1980, the trail and platform near the cave were closed.
