Põhjala is the largest Estonian brewery established in 2011 and exporting beer to more than 30 countries worldwide. The main focus of the brewery is modern beer, porters, and barrel-aged ales. Various ‘gifs’ of Estonian forests are used in recipes.

Põhjala has a rich history, having repeatedly participated in various beer festivals around the world, and also bearing many awards, including the White Guide list for several years in a row.

The company has two bars. Tap Room Põhjala is located at the brewery. Here you can taste 24 types of draft beer: several types of IPA and Põhjala imperial stouts, as well as beer from other producers. Snacks and Texas BBQ-style dishes are there to accompany your drinks. All food is cooked on-site, including bread, sausages, bacon, sauces, pastries, and more.

Also, dishes with Asian vibes made by chefs with Japanese and Korean roots are represented on the menu. For example, one of the restaurant’s favorite sauces, Osaka sauce, is made according to the recipe of chef Michael Holman’s mother. Such specialties as Korean beef tartare and kimchi are also among the authentic dishes.

The brewery offers guided tours to get introduced to the brewing process. If you want to please yourself with souvenirs or grab a beer to-go, you can do it in the shop at the brewery.

The second bar – Põhja Konn – is located in the creative Telliskivi district of Tallinn. Here you can taste 20 types of draft beer from all over Estonia as the bar specializes in Estonian craft beer. Various snacks are served with beer. The bar hosts regular events and live music.

A curious fact: the bar is named after the Estonian legend; Põhja Konn means “northern dragon”.
