Redan is a part of the Liepaja Sea Fortress built at the end of the 19th century.
Most of the fortifications around Karosta were recognized as a strategic mistake and blown up, but Redan remained almost intact. On November 14th, 1919, the liberation battles took place to protect Liepaja from the Bermont army.
In 2019, as part of the Karosta festival, an art event was held in Redan embracing representatives from different countries of the world. They presented works dedicated to the centenary of Latvia’s fights. for freedom. You can explore the installations during a guided tour around Redan.
