Bauska Old Town, Latvia
The city of Bauska was formed at the end of the 16th century with its oldest buildings being the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit and the restored City Hall.
The Old Town of Bauska is a monument of national importance. The structure of the city planning has been preserved here, with two main streets running by the river and a central trading square.
The urban residential buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries, where merchants and artisans used to live, have survived to this day. Shops were located on the first floor, and the owners lived on the second. In the late 19th century, several industrial enterprises were established in Bauska: the Loding brewery and the Lower and Upper mills.
There were also 2 synagogues in the old city, but both of them were burned down. In 2017, the”Garden of the Synagogue” memorial was built on the site of the large synagogue.
