Tartu Art Museum, Estonia
The largest art museum in Southern Estonia first opened its doors to visitors in 1940, and since then it has continued its work to preserve and promote art.
The museum building is known as the “Crooked House” because it is slightly tilted. The tilt is due to the fact that groundwater has been washing away the soil underneath it for hundreds of years. Extensive restoration work has been carried out, thanks to which the building is no longer in danger of collapsing.
The collection of the Tartu Art Museum contains more than 25,000 works of art, mainly by Estonian artists covering the period from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day.
Until September 28th, the museum has four exhibitions.
The solo exhibition of Ukrainian artist Viktoria Berezina “A Face Made of Noise” represents a series of collage works that reflect the state of internal crisis and loss caused by war and the home wreck.
The exhibition “Local Beauty. Tallinn Jewellery Factory” introduces visitors to the products created at the factory between 1951 and 1994.
“Serpent” is an exhibition of sculptures by contemporary Estonian artist Terje Ojaver, which talk about life as a challenge that each of us faces.
The exhibition “Travel Images” by artist Karin Lutz tells about the importance of travel in the life of an artist. The exhibition includes paintings, sketches and diaries of the artist.
New exhibitions will open in the museum from November 1st.
The exhibition of contemporary Estonian modernist artist Henn Roode “My Metamorphoses” consists of self-portraits of the artist and his colleagues made in different techniques throughout their lives.
“In the Blink of an Eye” is an exhibition by Yuri Kask, a graduate of the Tartu Art School, which tells about the artist’s creative path through his works.
