Rauna is one of the most picturesque and historically rich towns in the Cesis region. We have collected a list of the city’s most interesting sights.

1. Raunas Staburags

The only natural object of its kind in Latvia: stone that looks like a porous sponge covered with rare species of moss. Spring water flowing from it freezes in winter and turns into hundreds of icicles. It takes 10 minutes to get from the parking lot to Staburags.

2. Devil’s Cave in Rauna

This outcrop of white sandstone had a total length of 14 meters. In winter, frozen icicles form at the entrance to the cave. According to one of the legends, the Devil once lived in the cave and guarded his gold there.

3. Watermill

Rauna Mill Lake is located at the confluence of the Licupe River and the Rauna River. Due to the flow of rivers, a pond was formed; the mill was built on their banks in 1883 to generate electricity. The mill is included in the list of protected cultural monuments.

4. Health trail

Health trail leads from the Devil’s Cave to the old water mill by a beautiful two-kilometer path along the Rauna River, at the foot of Tanis Hill. The trail is equipped with various equipment for physical activity.

5. Ruins of Rauna Castle

Ruins of a medieval castle with a beautiful view of the city. Near the castle there is park with skating rink.
