Turaida Museum-Reserve. Sigulda, Latvia

This huge museum complex located near Sigulda makes one of the most beloved spots in Latvia. It embraced various expositions, monuments and objects of cultural and archaeological heritage, unveiling the history of Latvia starting from the 10th century.

The main and most famous attraction is the medieval castle rising above the lush forest. Visitors can explore its premises and get acquainted with the exposition dedicated to the Middle Ages. The estate features a carriage house, where you can see various types of transport of the 19th century used on the farm, and an old bathhouse exposing Latvian bathing traditions. The local former alcohol distillery now hosts exhibits on blacksmithing, woodworking and wool processing.

The complex also includes an agronome’s house, a church, a Folk Song Park and a vast array of outdoor exhibits and nature trails. Across the 57-hectare territory of the complex, you can not only immerse yourself in the history of the Middle Ages, but also spend time with your loved ones. The park has specially equipped picnic areas and a cafe, where you can stop after a picturesque walk.

The Turaida Church is very popular with wedding couples. Here, you can arrange an unforgettable wedding performance in a medieval style. There is also a special birthday program which turns the b-day gal into the owner of the castle or their noble offspring.
