Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center
Built in 1967 in the Soviet military camp for space exploring sake, this center currently belongs to the Engineering Research Center of the Ventspils University College. Since the times of the USSR, space and its celestial bodies have been studied here.
Although the center is no longer considered a strategic object, you can only visit it with a local guide by appointment. At the entrance, you will be kindly asked to leave your mobile phone and other devices capable of emitting radio waves. A guide will take you around radio telescopes and through an underground tunnel. Also, during the tour you will be able to admire the picturesque view over the sandy paths and Kurzeme hills.
