Siauliai is a small cozy town in the northern part of Lithuania with various historical and cultural sights, museums, and cafes with traditional Lithuanian dishes. Here you will find entertainment for every taste: families with children, outdoor enthusiasts, and couples willing to spend a romantic weekend. Here are some ideas for an interesting itinerary in Siauliai.

1. Eat a chocolate ball at Rūta Cafe

The chocolate factory “Rūta” was founded in 1913. At the factory, there is a museum of chocolate, as well as a cafe where you can try the products produced here. We recommend trying the chocolate ball. Children will especially like this magical dessert: you need to pour hot chocolate over a chocolate ball to find a ball of delicious ice cream inside.

2. Visit the “Balts’ Road” center

“Balts’ Road” is the first interactive center in Lithuania and Latvia to promote the culture of the Baltics. This is not just a conventional exhibition: the center embraces games, interactive installations, various puzzles, and tasks to get you acquainted with the life of the Balts. During the tour, you will be able to try on different roles: do some time traveling, try on one of the Baltic professions, and make cute photos.

3. Get to the tower of St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral

Siauliai tourist center provides a unique opportunity to look at the city from a height of 70 meters. Every weekend, the center arranges a tour to get people acquainted with the cathedral, its tower, old bells, and new bells known as a carillon. The tower offers stunning panoramic views of the city nowhere else to be found.

4. Be inspired by the architecture and roses of Chaim Frenkel’s villa-museum

The two-story villa is a fine example of Art Nouveau architecture. Inside you will find an exposition about the life of landowners. The best time to visit the villa is summer when more than 1500 roses bloom in the park. Many species presented in the garden have historical value. For example, here you will find a variety of roses bred in the 15th century in the United Kingdom.

5. Watch the sunset at Rekivos Lake

Spend a romantic evening watching the most beautiful sunset on Lake Rekivos, a unique spot in Siauliai, one of the favorite ones among the locals. This is a great place for a walk with children or for a romantic picnic. In the evening, the water reflects the city lights and looks beyond impressive.

6. Study rare plants in the botanical garden

The Botanical Garden of Siauliai will amaze you with its diversity of flora as there are more than 4,000 species presented, including rare plants from the European Red Book. The garden is divided into several thematic areas. We recommend paying attention to the rich collection of mountain plants and rhododendrons.

7. Try zeppelins with chickpeas in the “Valerijonas” historic pharmacy and tea house

The very center of Šiauliai hides an amazing gem, the “Valerijonas” pharmacy unveiling the history of Šiauliai pharmaceuticals. The archive contains not only photos but also valuable records and recipes for creams and tonics. The pharmacy has a tea room where you can try zeppelins with chickpeas, healthy plant-based sugar-free sweets, acorn coffee, and other vegetarian dishes. Also, workshops dedicated to the production of eco-friendly creams are held here.
