Yugen Tea. Vilnius, Lithuania
Yugen Tea is a small Japanese tea bar and studio in the heart of Vilnius where visitors can discover authentic Japanese tea and the culture surrounding its preparation. Its bright, minimalist interior, natural tones, and serene atmosphere evoke the feel of traditional Japanese teahouses. In summer, guests can also sit at tables in the cozy inner courtyard.
The name “Yugen” refers to a Japanese aesthetic concept describing the subtle beauty found in simple, everyday details. The venue’s atmosphere perfectly embodies this idea: amidst the fast pace of the city, Yugen Tea serves as an oasis of peace where one can slow down and get away from the hustle and bustle.
Giedrė, the founder of Yugen Tea, has been passionate about tea for over a decade. She studied East Asian culture and languages, lived in Japan, immersed herself in tea ceremony traditions, and later qualified as a Tea Master in Australia. She returns to Japan annually to meet with farmers and participate in the tea harvest; so, she is familiar not only with the nuances of each variety but also with the people who grow and produce them.
Great emphasis is placed on tea quality here. Yugen Tea sources products from small Japanese farms, and the preparation of each variety requires specific water temperatures, steeping times, and brewing methods. A visit here offers more than just a cup of tea; it is an opportunity to learn about the tea’s origins and cultivation, and how to bring out its flavor.
Customer favorites include Japanese matcha, including the popular matcha latte, as well as roasted tea varieties. The menu changes seasonally and features accompanying desserts. There is even a unique type of tea that can be eaten after brewing.
Yugen Tea regularly hosts tastings, tea ceremonies, workshops, and other themed events. The team also organizes off-site tastings and tea stations for private and corporate events, ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale functions with hundreds of attendees.
You can purchase the teas you enjoy to take home. The venue features a small shop offering Japanese teas, handmade ceramics, and tea-brewing accessories. These items can also be ordered via the online store for delivery across Europe.
