In the northeastern part of Vilnius, in the Verkiai Regional Park, there are six picturesque lakes distinguished by their bright green color due to the high carbonate amount in the water.

The lakes were formed as a result of the glacier melting about 18,000 years ago; their depth reaches almost 40m. The lakes are surrounded by steep wooded hills.

The largest lake Balsis has a well-equipped city beach, which is one of the most popular swimming spots in Vilnius.
